Don Svob, Wood Turner
Having always worked with his hands, creating, repairing and designing, Don began working with wood in 2008 after a lathe grabbed his attention at an auction. An individual who excels at the technical aspects of any endeavor, Don has designed many of his own trade tools. Now on his fifth lathe, he has reworked each to better achieve his creative goals. Don typically works with local wood and especially likes the challenge of turning roots and spalted wood. His works of art and style have developed along with this technique. This journey has been encouraged and enriched through his membership at the Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild in Burlington and the Niagara Woodturners who meet in various locations in Niagara. The members of both these groups generously share their skills encouraging and allowing each member to shape their own style. Don has won and/or received recognition for his works having entered in a number of competitions. He has also demonstrated his style and techniques to several wood turning associations in Ontario including the two he is a member of.
